Sammenvævet

2024

The artwork, "Sammenvævet" is designed specifically for Textilen – a cultural center in Herning, and it was created in collaboration with Textilen and Ege Carpets. The piece is inspired by Textilen's logo and is displayed in the entrance to the main hall, which once housed Ege Carpets' old weaving mill. It was essential for me that the artwork not only symbolizes the building's past but also its future.

The woven strips in the artwork are remnants of the carpet from the hall. The geometric print design on the strips represents, for me, order and systematics, elements integral to both weaving and factories. In contrast, I have designed an organic print, created by drawing shadows of flowers picked in Herning. These diverse forms symbolize for me the many contributions, ideas, and people that a cultural center encompasses.

The two different designs are woven together, both to honor the former weaving mill and to illustrate how weaving combines various elements and directions into a cohesive whole. This holds deep symbolism for me, as it represents two different stories woven together into a new shared narrative.

Common to both Ege Carpets and Textilen is a vision for the future and their role in shaping it. Their dreams are symbolized in the artwork's golden triangle at the top, which can be seen both as a sun spreading light and joy and as a star guiding the way. This element represents the belief in a bright future and the guiding vision that leads them forward.
